Let’s get started!

How to Make Money Blogging

I’m going to start this article by telling you a little secret:

Making money online through blogging is not as difficult as you may think.

But there are a few things you need to do in order to make it happen.

First, let’s take a look at the different ways you can start making money online:

1. Affiliate Marketing: This is where you promote other people’s products or services and receive a commission for every sale you make.

2. Display Advertising: This is where businesses pay to have their ads displayed on your blog.

3. Selling Digital Products: This is where you create and sell products, such as eBooks, online course, membership site or software.

4. Consultation/Coaching: You can offer consulting services or coaching services from the digital marketing skills you develop over time.

5. Content Agency: This is where you offer your services to help others improve their online marketing efforts.

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is where you promote other people’s products or services and receive a commission for every sale you make.

There are a lot of different ways to do affiliate marketing, but the most common is through a process called “affiliate linking.”

Affiliate linking is where you include a special link, or “affiliate link,” on your blog that connects to the product or service you’re promoting.

If someone clicks on your affiliate link and makes a purchase, you receive a commission from the sale.

There are a lot of different affiliate programs out there, but some of the most popular ones include:

1. Amazon Associates: This is one of the largest affiliate programs out there, and it’s open to bloggers around the world.

2. Commission Junction: Commission Junction is another large affiliate network that has a wide variety of different merchants.

3. Clickbank: Clickbank is a digital marketplace where you can find affiliate products to promote on your blog.

4. ShareASale: ShareASale is an affiliate network that has a wide variety of different merchants.

5. Rakuten Linkshare: Rakuten Linkshare is another large affiliate network with a lot of different merchants.

If you’re interested in doing affiliate marketing, then I recommend signing up for one or more of these affiliate networks.

They’ll give you access to a wide variety of different products and services to promote on your blog.

(Can you give me some examples?)

To illustrate the concept of affiliate linking, let’s take a look at an example.

Example of successful blog:

The Wirecutter

How to make money blogging

Founded in 2011 , The Wirecutter is a site that reviews products and recommends the best ones.

They have a team of experienced reviewers, and they only recommend products that they actually use and love.

The Wirecutter earns revenue through affiliate marketing.

Every time someone clicks on one of their affiliate links and makes a purchase, The Wirecutter receives a commission.

Some of their most popular affiliate partners include:

1. Amazon: The Wirecutter has an affiliate agreement with Amazon, and they earn a commission for every sale made through their affiliate links.

2. Newegg: The Wirecutter also has an affiliate agreement with Newegg, and they earn a commission for every sale made through their affiliate links.

3. Best Buy: The Wirecutter also has an affiliate agreement with Best Buy, and they earn a commission for every sale made through their affiliate links.

So…?

How much they make per year?

According to Growjo, Wirecutter’s estimated annual revenue is currently $36.9M per year!

Many successful bloggers leverage affiliate marketing as their main blog monetization strategy.

They make money with affiliate income.

Do you think you could create a similar website?

Google AdSense

Google AdSense is a program that places ads on your blog articles and pays you based on the traffic you generate.

The more traffic you generate, the more way to make money online.

This is a great way to monetize a blog because it’s very simple to set up and it doesn’t require any special skills.

You just need a Google account and you can start displaying ads on your blog.

Once you’re approved, you’ll be able to start displaying ads on your blog.

Some other popular Ad networks include:

1.Ezoic: Ezoic is an Ad networks pays you based on the quality of your traffic.

2.Mediavine: Mediavine is another alternative that pays you based on the number of views your ads receive.

3.Ad Thrive: Ad Thrive pays you based on the amount of money you generate for them.

These are just a few of the many different ad networks that are available.

So, which one should you choose?

That depends on your blog content and the type of traffic you generate.

If you’re not sure which ad network to choose, then I recommend starting with Google AdSense.

It’s the most popular ad network, and it’s very simple to set up.

Once you have a few months of traffic data, you can start experimenting with other ad networks to see which ones work best for you.

Examples

Daily Dot

How to make money blogging

The Daily Dot is a news website that covers the latest in tech, internet culture, and politics.

They have a team of journalists who write daily articles on a variety of different topics.

The Daily Dot earns revenue through online advertising.

They partner with a number of different ad networks, including Google AdSense, to place ads on their website.

So…?

How much they make per year?

According to SimilarWeb, The Daily Dot’s estimated annual revenue is $15M-$25M.

So, now that we’ve covered the basics of affiliate marketing and Google AdSense, let’s take a look at some other ways to earn money from your blog.

(What are some other ways?)

Selling Digital Products

This may sound hard, but a lot of bloggers make a killing selling their own digital products.

Digital products can include things like e-books, online courses, templates, or even software.

The great thing about digital products is that they’re easy to produce and there’s no shipping or inventory costs.

All you need to do is create a product and make it available for sale on your blog.

Some popular digital products include:

1.E-books: E-books are a popular digital product. They’re easy to produce and they can be sold for a high profit margin.

2.Online Courses: Online courses are another popular digital product. They can be more expensive to produce than e-books, but they can also generate a higher revenue stream.

3.Templates: Templates are a popular digital product because they’re easy to produce and they can be sold for a high profit margin.

4.Software: Software is a popular digital product because it can be expensive to produce, but it can also generate a high revenue stream.

5.Subsciption:  Subscriptions are a popular digital product because they can be recurring and they can generate a high revenue stream by providing access to exclusive content.

But…

I just start blogging. How can I produce a digital product?

That’s a great question!

Even as a beginner bloggers you can create an e-book.

E-books are easy to produce, and they can be sold for a high profit margin.

You can write an e-book on any topic that you’re passionate about, and you don’t need any special skills or experience.

In fact, you could even do a complication e-book with a number of different articles on different topics for a start.

Have you seen Chicken soup for the soul?

Did you know they don’t  write those books, they compile different stories from different people and sell it as a book.

You can do the same thing!

That’s just one of the many ideas for a digital product.

Example

Natalie Hodson

She started out by providing free content, but soon found success after learning about ClickFunnels and using it to monetize her products.

Her story is an inspiration for sell digital products.

You can watch this case study if you are curious to know more about her story.

Consultation

This may not be a popular option for everyone, but some bloggers do very well by offering consultation services.

Certainly, this may not be for anyone who is not an expert in a particular field, but if you are, then this could be a great way to make money online.

Simply put, consultation services involve providing advice and help to clients who need it.

This can take many different forms, such as one-on-one consultations, group coaching sessions, or even teleseminars.

The great thing about consultation services is that they can be very lucrative, and they can help you to establish yourself as an expert in your field.

But…

How can I offer consultation services if I don’t have any experience(Blogging)?

True, providing consultation services may require some experience or expertise, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get started.

One way to get started is… You Get Started First.

This may sound cliché , but it’s true…

Why?

You will be one step ahead of those who don’t have any experience.

Along the journey to pursuit of knowledge, you document your blogging journey.

As a blogger, you have the opportunity to help others and provide them with valuable information.

And once you’ve established yourself as an expert in your field, people will start to come to you for help.

So don’t be afraid to offer your help and advice to others.

It can be a great way for building relationships.

Blogging is a lot like owning property.

Just as with property, there are different ways to earn money blogging.

You can rent out your blog space to other businesses, or you can sell advertising on your site.

And just like with property, you can sell when the time is right.

In other words, you can sell your blog for a lump sum of cash.

How much you can make from selling a blog will vary depending on a number of factors, such as the age of the blog, its traffic, and how well it’s been monetized.

But…

If you’ve been blogging for a while and have a decent amount of traffic, you could potentially make six figures from the sale of your blog.

Examples

I hope you still remember the examples above.

Because…

  • The Wirecutter was sold to New York Times Post for $30Million(2016).
  • Backlinko was sold to Semrush for undisclosed fees(2022).
  • Moz was sold to iContact for undisclosed fees(2019).

What do you think the undisclosed fees will be?

7 figure? 8 figure?(Could be 9 figure?)

There are few sites that will help you sell your blog.

Here are some of the most popular:

Each of these sites will have different fees, so be sure to do your research before choosing one.

You see, blogging is a serious business.

And if you’re willing to put in the work, you can make money from it.

But…

Like any business, you need to know if there is a market for the things you blog about.

Don’t worry, I got your back.

In order to make money blogging, you need to have a GAME plan.

And that’s what I’m going to share with you today.

So let’s get started.

How to Make Money Blogging (Your GAME Plan)

Have you read Tim Ferriss’ 4 Hour Work Week?

If you have, then you know in chapter 2 he starts with…

Beating the Game, Not Playing the Game

This is true to blogging as well.

Why?

To be in the game, you need to understand the RULE(Google).

Once you know the RULEs, then you can start beating the game.

The best way to learn the rules is  to study those who have mastered the game.

In this case, the bloggers who are making money blogging.

But how do you find these bloggers?

Simple, Google it!

That’s how I found the examples above.

Next, we need to know what these rules want to achieve.

For this case(Google) is user experience.

Who ever provide the best user experience shall be rewarded with the RULES.

In Traffic Secrets book, it discuss a lot about understanding what the platform wants and how to give it to them.

Once you know what the platform wants, then you can start giving it to them by providing CONTENT.

Which is the key to making money blogging.

CONTENT CONTENT CONTENT.

It’s the one thing that will set you apart from everyone else.

But not just any CONTENT, it needs to be GOOD CONTENT.

Why?

Because the user experience is a key component of the Google RULE.

And we don’t want to break the RULE, do we?

No, we don’t.

So How do you create good content?

1. Find your voice: You need to find your own unique voice and stick with it.

2. Be helpful: your content should always be helpful and provide value to your readers.

3. Stay up to date: Make sure your content is always current and relevant.

4. Write for humans, not robots: Don’t try to write like a robot, write like a person.

5. Be yourself: Don’t try to be someone you’re not, just be yourself and let your personality shine through.

6. Be original: Don’t copy someone else’s content, be original and unique.

7. Take risks: Try something new and different, don’t be afraid to take risks.

8. Have fun: Blogging should be fun, so make sure you enjoy what you’re doing.

These are just some tips to get you started, but there are many other ways to create good content.

The most important thing is to find what works best for you and stick with it.

By the way…

The name of the rule is “SEO” (Search Engine Optimization).

Making Money Blogging Game Plan

Now let’s get into the game plan.

Like any other game, you need to have a plan of action if you want to be successful.

There is many steps to this plan, but I’m going to share the most important ones with you.

I name it ROI(Research, Organize and Implement)

  1. Research what other people have done in the past in your area.
  2. Organize your findings and create a sales funnel
  3. Implement the plan and see results.

Research

Yes… I know you are eager to start making money, but you need to do your research first.

This is the most important step of the process.

Why?

Because you need to know what has worked in the past and what is currently working.

You can’t just start throwing content at a wall and hope it sticks.

That’s a recipe for disaster.

You need to be strategic in your approach and do your research first.

Most bloggers failed at this one just don’t let that be you.

I’m sure you won’t because you are reading this.

There is a few things you need to research on:

Market Research(Blog Niches)

This is the most important part of the research.

If you want to create real money blogging then don’t skip this!

If there is no market or demand on the blog niche we pursuit, then our efforts will be fruitless.

That’s why we need to do our research and find a blogging niche that has a lot of potential.

But don’t just go by numbers, look at the trends as well.

What are people interested in?

What are they talking about?

That’s the information you need to find in order to determine if there is a market for your blog.

There are few ways to do market research:

  1. Google Trends: This is a great way to see what people are currently interested in.
  2. Social Media: Look at the social media platforms to see what topics are being talked about the most.
  3. Forums: Check out some popular forums in your niche to see what people are talking about.
  4. Amazon: Take a look at the best selling books in your niche to get an idea of what people are interested in.
  5. Marketplace: Check out some popular marketplaces to see what people are buying.

After doing this research you will know which blog niches you want and target audience for the blog’s niche.

Competitor Research

Once your chosen the market you want to pursue, you need to do some competitor research.

This is where you take a look at your competition and see what they are doing that’s working.

You also want to find out what they are not doing that you can do better.

Find the “Gap” that you could fill.

How can you make your blog better than your competition?

This is essential information that you need to know in order to be successful.

You also want to find out what their traffic sources are.

Where are they getting the most blog traffic from?

This can give you some ideas on where to focus your efforts.

There are many ways to do this but for a start i will suggest you try with Google search.

Go in Google search bar and type:

site: (Your Niche)

For example you are interested in start a fitness blog.

Example: Site: Fitness

How to make money blogging

You will find a lists of website that talks about Fitness

Or…

You can try use tools like Surfer SEO.

Affiliate Program Research

This is important for two reasons:

1. To find out if they have an affiliate program

2. How competitive the market is

The reason you want to know how competitive the market is, is because you want to make sure there is room for you to make money.

If it’s too competitive, then it might be harder to make money.

But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible, you just need to put in more work.

When it comes to finding an affiliate program, most of the time they will have a page on their website that tells you all about it.

But if they don’t, then you can always reach out to them and ask.

Another way to find affiliate programs is to go to Google and type:

“Your Niche” + affiliate program

This will give you a list of websites that have an affiliate program for your niche.

Keyword Research

Finally, you need to do some keyword research.

Keyword research helps your understand what people are searching for.

For a start you need to find keywords that have a lot of traffic but also has low competition.

There is many ways to do Keyword research.

Let’s start with Google.

You can type Your Niche A… b…. c…

For example: You type (fitness a) then you see what words pops out. That is a keyword.

Then on the search result(SERP) you will the competition on the top.

Next, you check out people also ask…

These are keywords as well…

Then you scroll to the bottom, you will see related searches which you could add in your list for future content creation and finally at the bottom you will see a list of suggested keywords.

There is a also a better way to do keyword research with tools.

Ahrefs: This is a great tool for finding keywords.

You can type in a keyword and it will show you all the related keywords, as well as how much traffic those keywords get and how competitive the market is.

Surfer SEO: This is another great tool for finding keywords.

Just like Ahrefs, it will show you all the related keywords as well as how much traffic those keywords get and how competitive the market is.

Talent Research(Optional)

In this research, you will find 2 things.

First, what is your talent.

You like doing research?

You like to write?

You like to create relationship(guest post content)?

Guest posting is a great relationship building strategy to help boost your authority.

By reaching out to other site and ask if they accept guest posts.

Some guest post can also be sponsored posts.

Second, what you don’t like to do…

Yes, there are times we don’t like to do certain task but we have to do it because it’s part of the job.

Once, you figure out which aspect you don’t like then you could outsource it to freelancer or hire inhouse team to do the work for you.

To hire a writer you can start with problogger.com.

To find multi talent marketplace you can start with fiver.com.

Organize Your Research

When it comes to online marketing, one of the most important things you need to know is the sales funnel framework.

The sales funnel framework is a process that takes your potential customers from stranger to customer.

Why it’s important?

Because it will help you determine what blog topics to write about, as well as what type of content you should be creating.

Let’s take a look at the funnel.

  1. TOFU(Top of the funnel)
  2. MOFU(Middle of the funnel)
  3. BOFU(Bottom of the funnnel)

TOFU

Customer whom at this stage are not self-aware of the problems they have or the need for a solution.

In this stage, you want to focus on getting your potential customers’ attention.

You can do this by creating blog posts, videos or any type of content that will help them become aware of the problem they have.

Example:

Let’s take ClickFunnels for example.

If you’re not familiar with ClickFunnels, it’s a software that helps you create landing pages and sales funnels.

Their favorite quote is

Your Website is Dead, You need a Sales Funnel

When you read this, it’s a wake up call(Awareness stage).

It’s telling you that if you don’t have a sales funnel, then you’re losing money.

Then you start dig deeper to find out more.

You will go to the next stage of the funnel.

MOFU

In this stage, the customer is already aware of their problems and they are looking for a solution.

In this stage, you want to focus on providing solutions to their problems.

Example:

Let’s continue the example above.

Ok, I need a sales funnel for my business.

I am looking for the best options.

So, they google “Best Sales Funnel Software”

At this point, you could create a “Transactional Blog Post” like:

  • Best Sales Funnel Software
  • Best Landing Page Builder
  • Best Digital Marketing Tools

etc.

This is content that helps the customer make a decision.

It’s not about selling them on ClickFunnels, it’s about providing information so they can make an informed decision.

BOFU

In this stage, the customer has already decided on a solution and they are ready to buy.

In this stage, you want to focus on helping them buy.

Example:

Ok, I’ve decided to use ClickFunnels.

Now what?

In this stage, you could create a “How-To Guide” or a “Product Review”.

How-To Guide: How to use ClickFunnels for Online Marketing?

Product Review: ClickFunnels Review: What is ClickFunnels?

etc.

These are content that will help the customer buy from you.

Now that you know the sales funnel framework, it’s time to start content strategy.

The best way to figure out what content to create is by using the “Problem/Solution” formula.

Start by identifying the problems your potential customers are experiencing, then provide solutions to those problems.

Once you have a good idea of the type of content you should be creating, it’s time to start writing.

Remember, the most important thing is to provide value to your potential customers.

So, make sure you focus on solving their problems, not selling them something.

Now you know which stages your customers are at in their journey, then you can organize your keyword research and create content based on that.

Implement

Now that you know what type of content to create, it’s time to start implementing it.

Start by creating a content calendar.

This will help you keep track of the content you’re creating, as well as when it’s going to be published.

You can use tools like Google Sheets or Trello to create your content calendar.

Once you have your content calendar created, start creating fresh content based on the keywords you’ve identified.

Make sure to use those keywords in your titles, descriptions, and throughout the article.

Once you have a few articles published, start promoting them on social media and other websites.

The most important thing is to continue creating and providing value to your potential customers.

Next, track your success.

Are people engaging with your content?

Are they converting into customers?

If not, then you need to adjust your content and try something different.

The key is to always be testing and tweaking until you find what works best for you.

Creating content is one of the most important things you can do to grow your business.

So, make sure you focus on creating content that provides value to your potential customers.
